Hello Colleague,
Welcome to our Summer 2024 BRM newsletter! I hope you are enjoying summer wherever you are. It goes fast, so take some time away from work to enjoy your friends and family and take a breath. An adult beverage might be in the cards, too. 😀
This quarter, our newsletter covers several important topics for BRMs and IT organizations:
The High-Performing BRM class continues to expand in the US and abroad, with locations including the UK, Germany, Dubai, New Zealand, and Canada. We’ve also partnered with select organizations in other regions to deliver this class in person globally.
If you haven’t had the chance to attend a session yet, we have upcoming virtual classes scheduled for September and December and an in-person session in Sheffield, UK, from November 4-6. We also offer in-person classes for organizations and groups, such as BRM Communities. You can find all the details below.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss BRM further, please feel free to respond to this newsletter. We’d love to hear from you. Thanks!

In today’s complex business environment, organizations increasingly recognize the importance of Business Relationship Management (BRM) in bridging the gap between IT and business objectives. A well-developed BRM capability is essential for fostering strategic partnerships that drive efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainable growth. However, building a successful BRM program is not a straightforward task: It requires careful planning, a strategic vision, and deliberate effort.
This article outlines the key steps needed to develop a robust and impactful BRM program.

Communicating essential information to leadership is vital for the success of any organization. It ensures that decision-makers are fully informed about the current needs and opportunities within the business, enabling them to align strategic objectives with operational realities.
By consistently providing leadership with relevant updates, challenges, and successes, BRMs can ensure that the leadership team is aware of the current state of business units and the potential for future growth or risk mitigation. This communication not only aids in decision-making but also helps prioritize initiatives that will drive the most value for the organization.
Moreover, raising awareness about the depth of BRM involvement is crucial for demonstrating the strategic importance of the BRM role. When leadership understands the extent of BRM activities and their impact on business outcomes, it enhances their ability to support these initiatives effectively. This awareness fosters a strengthened partnership between business units and IT, ensuring that both sides work towards common goals.
To facilitate effective communication, we have developed the ‘BRM Snapshot.’ This one-page overview is delivered weekly (or at other intervals) to leadership, highlighting successes, challenges, essential information, and actions needed. It also outlines upcoming deadlines, providing leadership with a clear understanding of the necessary steps to maximize organizational impact. Additionally, it directly communicates the support required from leadership for BRMs to succeed in their partnerships with business units.
